Berchtesgaden is situated in the Bavarian Alps, south of Munich and close to the Austrian border. Its location in the Berchtesgadener Land National Park adds to the beauty of this area with features such as Germany's third highest mountain, Mount Watzmann and the glacial lake of Koenigssee.

The mountains and valleys that surround Berchtesgaden are like a stage for the festival of nature. The scenery is breathtaking; rugged cliffs, dense forests that change colour through the seasons and dense gorges that are complimented by gentle pastures and vales.

It is a beautiful picturesque area with something for everyone no matter what the season, although the area really comes into its own in winter.

Bavaria is a state with huge contrasts - vibrant cities, beautiful countryside and the Bavarian Alps. We started out as mere tourists ourselves and therefore our understanding of what visitors need to know is second to none.
